SUMMARY
The Engineering / Estimating Team Leader is responsible for development and mentoring of engineering specialists, control estimators and project administrators on the team and providing feedback to the Contracting Solutions Manager relative to opportunities and obstacles in managing the engineering, estimating or pre-fulfillment backlog. Under general direction, this position has duties of instructing, directing, and checking the work of engineering specialists, controls estimators and project administrators. Applies engineering principles and practices for work on assigned projects. Responsible for hardware and software selection and application for building automation systems and direct and indirect control sales estimating. Designs cost effective control solutions to meet project requirements. Reviews and approves estimates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned.
  • Provides engineering, estimating, and project administration direction and support to other team members. Determines project assignments within the team, and tracks project progress through completion.
  • Responsible for approving estimates at appropriate sell levels and coordination of any additional approvals.
  • Assists Contracting Solutions Manager in performance monitoring and appraisal of team members.
  • Attends direct and indirect team sales meetings, and local and district manager meetings. Attends sales and technical transition meetings.
  • Leads monthly meetings for building automation team.
  • Responsible for communication flow between team members and business leadership team.
  • Coordinates training for engineering specialists, control estimators and project administrators.
  • Responsible for reviewing contract documents and conducting job surveys.
  • Responsible for design and estimating activities utilizing direct digital controls, electronic and pneumatic comfort control and automation systems. Responsible for sequences of operations which project requirements.
  • Responsible for coordination of vendor purchase orders and Trane material orders through project administrator members of the team.
  • Negotiates required Trane material and outside purchases.
  • Assists coordination of control programming and graphics for control systems.
  • Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communication with staff, as needed, and providing customer feedback.
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring team members.
  • Schedules, coordinates, plans, and leads team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Some travel with occasional overnight stays. (10%)
  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required.
